Judiciary of Sierra Leone Communications Unit, Luawa Chiefdom Kailahun Town, Freetown: The newly appointed High Court Judge who was presented to the Kailahun District stakeholders on Saturday, 23rd January, 2021, Justice Francis Banks-Kamara has imprisoned four (4) accused persons for sexual penetration contrary to law.
Since resumption of duties on Tuesday, 26th January, 2021 as the first resident Judge in the District, the Hon. Judge has so far heard seventeen (17) sexual penetration and sexual related cases. Out of the 17 cases, four (4) were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment at the Correctional Center in Kailahun town.
The accused were charged with Sexual Penetration contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012, Act No. 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by Section 4 (a) (i) of the Sexual Offences amendment Act of 2019, Act No. 8 of 2019.
In delivering his judgement, Justice Banks-Kamara said he was satisfied that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. He therefore sentenced Mustapha Saffa Lansana and Samuel More to fifteen (15) years imprisonment each. Ensah Aruna who was charged with sexual penetration and incest was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
