Mariatu Kamara, 35 years old resident of Looking Town Regent Village, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Magistrate Court No.4 on three count charges of wounding with intent, contrary to Section 18 of the offences against the person Act 1861, wounding, contrary to Section 20 of the Offences against the Persons Act 1861 and assault causing actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Offences against the Persons Act of 1961.
It was stated that, the accused Mariatu Kamara, on Saturday 30 th January 2021 at Saint Charles Drive Regent village, maliciously wounded Sahid Nasralla, a Forest Guard with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
An application for the accused to be put on bail was brought forth by the Defense Counsel and in making his application, he pleaded that his Client is an ordinary Sierra Leonean residing within the Freetown Judicial District and that she has reliable surety who are ready to go into recognizance on
her behalf, stating that his client is not a flight risk nor would she interferer with prosecution witness or witnesses.
In addition, that pursuant to section 23(4) of the constitution of Sierra Leone Act No.6 an Accused is presume innocent until found guilty. Moreover, the said application he continued is made pursuant
to section 79(2) and (3) of C.P.A. No. 32 of 1965.
Having heard the application for bail on behalf of the Accused, the learned Magistrate in his remarks stated that “taken into consideration how grave the allegations are before this court, I hereby refuse bail and so ordered the Accused remain in custody”. The matter was adjourned to April 1 st 2021.
In another hearing, Sampha Mansaray, a 24 years Bike rider and Abdulai Conteh 39 yrs old businessman of 31 B Leah Street were arrayed before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Court No.4 on two count charges ranging from conspiracy to Defraud contrary to law and Obtaining money on false
pretense; Contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 199.
The Particular of the offence states that Both accused persons on Wednesday 17 March 2021 at 31B Leah street, Freetown conspired together and with other persons unknown to defraud Simeon Sesay with the sum of Twenty Five Million Leones (25,000,000) by falsely pretending that they would loan him the sum of le10,000,000 to enable him buy a car, knowing the same to be false.
Both Accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges and were refused bail, the matter adjourned to
1 st April 2021.
