MAF on sector Policy reform
In a bid to transform the Agricultural Sector in Sierra Leone the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has embarked on strategic policy shifts aimed at increasing land under cultivation and contributes to boosting yields.
These interventions/initiatives are focused on setting the enabling environment that promotes private sector investment in Agriculture, reduces inefficiencies in service delivery and protect smallholder farmers involved in agriculture.
These key landmark initiatives include: 1) Private Sector Led Farm Mechanization through the establishment of Machine Rings and Farmer Service Centers; 2) Agricultural Credit Facility to Private Sector Actors to import Agricultural Inputs (Seed, Fertilizer and other Agro Chemicals: 3) E – Wallet System to foster Efficiency, Transparency as well as Cost Reduction in the Government’s Input Delivery; 4) E – Extension to complement the Extension Strategy to reach millions of Farmers with information to help Decision Making, Boost Production and Income Generation.
This piece focuses on the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme. The Agricultural Information and Communications Unit will bring you multiple pieces as events unfold on the policy shifts.
In respect of this Farm Mechanization intervention, a Public Private Partnership Contract has been signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Private Sector players.
For ease of access, the machines have been prepositioned in all 15 Agricultural Districts. Attached is a detailed list of Machine Ring Operators across the Country. For further information or clarification, please contact the MAF Communications Lead, Mohamed Conteh on 076 497412 / 031 186034
