Many Sierra Leoneans have raised concerns over the delay in the issuance of the much talked about National Identification cards. Speaking to this medium, Desmond Vandy, a senior staff at the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) described some of the challenges the Authority is facing regarding the issuance of the ID Cards.

He stated that the shift in management structure has greatly contributed in the delay adding that the authority is currently being managed by a new administration, underscoring the fact there are procedural and structural changes within the institution that have caused the delay in the issuing of I.D. cards.

The other reason he said, is based on the introduction of new electronics photographic machines for which staff have to be technically trained to operate them.

He further emphasized about the attitude of Sierra Leoneans when he observed that many times people come for their I.D. cards with urgency as if the procedure should be done at once because they want to accomplish their own personal business quickly without following the due process just to blame the institution at the end of the day.

He ended by assuring the public that everything has been properly put in place to start issuing I.D. cards.
