Radio Democracy (98.1fm), Freetown-Thursday, 3 April 2025—Attorney General, Alpha Sesay, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the long-standing constitutional review process during an interview on Radio Democracy (98.1fm).

He traced the review’s history, which began under President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah, continued under President Ernest Bai Koroma, and is now advancing under President Julius Maada Bio. Alpha Sesay Esq. emphasized that the review process, which includes key reforms like a fixed election date, proportional representation, and the abolition of the death penalty, will not alter the two-term presidential limit.

Furthermore, he assured that legislative changes will be debated in Parliament, while entrenched provisions will be subjected to a national referendum.

Attorney General, provided updates on the Tripartite Implementation Framework, which aims to enhance governance with input from key stakeholders. He also discussed ongoing legislative reforms, including revisions to 17 constitutional provisions, amendments to the Public Elections Act, and updates to the Political Parties Act.

Regarding political prisoners, the APC’s list of 318 names, change 15 to 13.

Alpha Sesay Esq., clarified that former President Ernest Bai Koroma’s treason trial is not part of the political prisoners’ provisions outlined in Resolution 4 of the National Peace Agreement.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to justice while respecting the legal rights of all parties involved.
