The proactive management of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) under the no nonsense leadership of Mohamed Massaquoi has unearthed a birth and death certificate racket that involves some unscrupulous individuals issuing fake birth certificates to school pupils.
Reports reaching our news desk state that the five people have been arrested on Friday 15th January, 2021 over the matter and are under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department.
Meanwhile, investigations revealed that complaints had been coming from the public about bribes been taken by births and deaths registration staff to issue certificates; thereby raising the risk of such national documents falling into the hands of unscrupulous foreigners.
Parliament enacted the National Civil Registration Bill on the 30th June 2016 to pave the way for the establishment of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) and the undertaking of Civil Registration in Sierra Leone.
