Football fans in Sierra Leone have called on Isha Johansen, the President of the
Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to resign her position due to what
they referred to as a downward trend of football in the country. The outcry came
at a time the FA is battling with elections for the top position of the game.
Sierra Leoneans have been playing numerous games such as Soccer/Football,
Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, Golf, Tennis, etc. However, history shows that
nearly every Sierra Leonean grew up loving football, especially the male sex.
The football game developed to a time our footballers gained recognition by
FIFA through many teams worldwide.
This motivated the remaining home based players to grow and make football the
outstanding game today in our nation.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused the suspension of the game for some time.
Subsequently, most Sierra Leonean football fans, footballers and the
government were displeased in anger. The suspension was lifted; we prayed
earnestly that resuscitation takes place to quickly redevelop the game in
collaboration with the Government, sports ministry and particularly SLFA,
because under Madam Isha’s dispensation, our premier leagues are nothing
good to write home about.
It seems like someone in SLFA is apprehensive about adhering to the statutes of
the ministry.
Isha is so aggressive and arrogant, to all stakeholders of football loving fans but
determine to contest again for the president of SLFA. She already manipulated
the process. But there were problems in the association as numerous sceptics
were displeased for her election.
Going retrospective, the Monday March 17th., 2014 front page of the Exclusive
newspaper captioned an article: “Isha, Kallon settle scores “and had this to say :
The former minister of political and public affairs, Hon. Kemoh Sesay
intervened in the impasse between them in accordance with the ministry’s
statutory mandate “to intervene in socio political conflict in the most objective
manner aimed at building consolidating the peace , promoting harmony, etc.
With the intervention, the matter was amicably resolved without any party
claiming a social capital.
Both parties agreed to work together in the name of patriotism for the
furtherance of football in Sierra Leone with sincerity of purpose. They
committed themselves to cooperate plus to ensure that they refrain from
engaging the media in any negative propaganda regarding the matter.
That was just one of the challenges of the past. Presently, it looks like the
number has tripled. It is reminding us to see the new topic as “Isha, Kallon,
Chairman Kasho Holland Cole and Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq. must settle
scores”?

It seems that Isha has outscored her goal and should have thought of giving the
opportunity to another great contributor to success of the game. Instead, we are
hearing about her plans to take Jr. Navo as her assistant. What about others that
have greatly contributed to the progress of the game? Why must she not
cooperate with the other contestants this time around, when she has failed us
woefully since her appointment with hatred, selfishness, greed and bad hearts.
The ministry of political and public affairs and the ministry of sports must again
intervene in their impasses to create an amicable atmosphere around SLFA, the
government and fans. Isha must quit this time around to create peace and
stability in sports sector.
