On August 14th 2021, The Road Maintenance Fund Administration in the Ministry of Works commissioned themMain road and bridge construction project leading to UNIVERSITY OF KONO SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY in FARANDU Town, Gbense Chiefdom Kono District.

During the opening ceremony, Chief Kamanda said the people of Kono had long yearned for the construction of the main road and bridge leading to university of science technology site since the university project was commissioned. He stressed that the people of Kono district were excited about the construction and the bridge project which he lauded the Government for thinking well for the People of Kono and expressed his Satisfaction and commended the H.E President Bio and his Government for their tremendous efforts in the proposed Construction of UNIVERSITY OF KONO and the main bridge leading to the university site.

During the launching ceremony today, Honorable Emerson Lamina, the City Mayor Tamba Sam, the District Chairman Gbondo expressed their appreciation to the Ministry of works for the timely intervention to have approved the fund for the bridge project leading to University of Kono construction site which is about 417 acres of Land. Chief Kamanda said he’s very much happy and feels proud today for launching of the project as this will boost the road network system within the Gbense Chiefdom.

On Tuesday July 22nd 2020, President Julius Maada Bio made a commitment to establish a university of Science and Technology in the Kono District, Eastern Sierra Leone in his thank-you tour through approval of initial funding of $32 Million dollars from ECOWAS Bank of investment and Development for the Construction of the UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY in Kono district. The partial funding approval for the university project is the outcome of concerted efforts by H.E President Julius Maada Bio including various stakeholders Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Presidential Infrastructure Initiative (OPII).
