37 YR OLD GOES TO JAIL

Foday Kamara, an accused person aged 37 who pleaded guilty and begged for mercy has been convicted and sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment at the Male Correctional Center by the Principal Magistrate of Court No. 3 Pademba Road.

The accused has been before the court answering to preliminary investigation of one court charge of fraudulent conversion contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused person on the 10 of January 2021 obtained money from one Moriba Steven under the pretense of an oversea recruitment program. Investigation reveals that on diverse dates and time, the accused Foday Kamara collected huge amount of monies from different people on the pretense that there was an oversea recruitment programs in which a collateral of $2000 must be paid in order to secure a spot.
Presenting his witness before the court, one of the affected persons, Tamba Bangura, a 29 years old business man testifies that he was told about the said program by the Accused of an ongoing Oversea recruitment program to Omar, and upon completing some enquiries, he was asked by the Accused to pay the sum of $2000 to expedite the progress, Unlike others, he was only able to raise the sum of $1400 which he was asked by the Accused to deposit $1300 in a Private Savings Account at GT Bank, and the remaining $100 to hand him in cash for VISA processing in Ghana.
Tamba added that he and several others that were interested and have made payment were sent to Bo Town for a supposed training related to the program. Two months after completion of the training, they decided to enquire about the status of the program, but no valid reply was given to them. They felt aggrieved and decided to take the matter to CID.
However, the accused person was not legally represented by any Counsel While the matter was prosecuted by Assistance Superintendent of Police M. Moore.
